The Nautilus that reads like a cockpit. The 5712/1A takes Gerald Genta's steel sports icon and adds a rare combination of complications for the collection: a moon phase, a power reserve indicator and a running seconds subdial, arranged asymmetrically across the dial rather than in neat matching pairs. Launched in 2006 to replace the earlier 3712, it became one of the most technically interesting steel Nautilus references, and one that has only grown harder to find since Patek Philippe shifted the 5712 family toward gold.
This 2017 example is housed in the 40mm steel case, just 8.52mm thick, with the octagonal bezel and integrated steel bracelet the Nautilus is known for. The blue-black gradient dial deepens toward the edges, with gilt applied hour markers and luminescent hands for legibility. On the right side of the dial, the date is shown by a hand tracking a printed scale around a moon phase display; on the left, an arc-shaped power reserve indicator between 10 and 11 o'clock shows how much run time is left. Inside is the automatic calibre 240 PS IRM C LU, visible through the sapphire exhibition caseback, with 29 jewels and a 48-hour power reserve.
